Rumors of My Death

Rumors of My Death is my fourth AIMhack campaign, and my third set in the world of Mote. The campaign picks up right after the events of Selos and the Oracle, and shortly after Treachery at Selaneus. The action is directly concerned with the fallout from those two campaigns...

They call her Rikkla the Cold, and she likes to leave the frozen corpses of her enemies on display outside of her stronghold. Her magic is potent, and she is known to have a penchant for collecting magical artifacts. In brief, she is not an elf to be trifled with. Of course, all of this is something of a moot point now, given that she is believed dead after her forces clashed with those of Trassak the Nimble.

Though she may be dead, her stronghold still stands. And the rumors of the treasure waiting inside are persistent. You are familiar with these rumors, and so is your current employer, a Selaneus dragonborn by the name of Gotay. He wishes you to retrieve a specific artifact, one that was allegedly the source of Rikkla's power.

Naturally, you accepted. What could be more tempting than a stroll through a warehouse full of artifacts? Even if you have to pry them from someone's cold dead fingers...

Session Logs

  • 9-22-10 - Session #1 (172kb, .rtf)
    • The party immediately sets the jungles of Selos on fire, gets poisoned, and continues a long and storied tradition of adventures blundering into Sarden without a plan. Kurex gets pickpocketed and Josun misses a window.
  • 10-3-10 - Session #2 (161kb, .rtf)
    • After consulting with the abolitionists of Sarden, the party attempts to cause a ruckus in Sarden and free some slaves along the way. This time Kurex fails at diving out a window, and the party finally reaches Rikkla's citadel.
  • 10-20-10 - Session #3 (115kb, .rtf)
    • The party charges into Rikkla's burning citadel, and happens upon a large group of bandits. The party does its level best not to die, and eventually descends into the lower levels of Rikkla's citadel.
  • 10-27-10 - Session #4 (114kb, .rtf)
    • The party duels with Rikkla's torturer, and explores the cells of her stronghold. Many explosions ensue.
  • 11-10-10 - Session #5 (184kb, .rtf)
    • After regrouping from their losses, the party delves deeper and deeper into Rikkla's citadel, trying time and time again to use the cursed cloak they found as a weapon. Even more explosions ensue.
  • 12-1-10 - Session #6 (141kb, .rtf)
    • Fresh from Rikkla's stronghold, the party surveys the damage they've done to the city of Sarden. Then they try not to get struck by lightning, and figure out where to go next.
  • 12-8-10 - Session #7 (157kb, .rtf)
    • Having finally found a bastion of safety and civilization in the jungles of Selos, the party proceeds to rest up, convince a friendly sage to identify several clearly dangerous artifacts, and learn more about Rikkla.
  • 12-23-10 - Session #8 (136kb, .rtf)
    • The party begins its pursuit of Rikkla, trekking through the jungles of Selos. Unfortunately, this means traveling through the territory of the none-too-friendly Fury tribe.
  • 1-5-11 - Session #9 (135kb, .rtf)
    • Pretty much as soon as the party got into the jungle, they wanted to get out. Of course, the Furies still know about them, and aren't too happy about it. And then there's that whole "finding Rikkla" thing they need to worry about.
  • 1-20-11 - Session #10 (87kb, .rtf)
    • The party moves higher and higher into the Malino Mountains, finding a reprieve in the camp of the Talon Mining Company. However, in order to outfit themselves for more mountaineering, the party finds itself doing the miners' dirty work.
  • 2-2-11 - Session #11 (187kb, .rtf)
    • The party finally locates the citadel of Shrakka-Tos, where they've been led to believe Rikkla was going. It's suspended over a chasm with ice-covered rope bridges as the only way to access it. Awesome.
  • Conclusion (21kb, .rtf)
    • The last few scenes from the campaign, picking up right where Session#11 left off.
  • Epilogues (22kb, .rtf)
    • The assembled epilogues and interludes for all five surviving party members, as well as one more.
